The Scientific Committee of the 13th Asia-Pacific Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infection invites the submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentation. Detailed presentation instructions will be provided with the notice of acceptance to presenters.

General guidelines

• Only original and unpublished works are invited.
• Submission of an abstract does not constitute registration for the Congress.
• Presenting authors of abstracts should submit their registration online before Aug. 31, 2012.
• Abstracts must be prepared as a MS Word for Windows document (2007 or any earlier versions) and submitted via online system before May 31, 2012.
• Notifications of acceptance will be sent to corresponding authors by June 30, 2012. Scheduling information and instructions on poster preparation will be included with this notification.
• Corresponding authors are responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have read and approved the abstract submitted.
• Submissions not adhering to the guidelines will not be reviewed.

Format instructions

1. Abstract must be typed in ENGLISH and saved in Microsoft Word format with the body limited with 300 words or 200 words if containing of one table or one figure (not including authors’ information). The file size of the submitted abstract should be within 2 MB.
2. The text should be fixed line spacing 14pt and written in point size 12, using Times New Roman font. The title should be concise and describe the research to be reported in point size 14 and be bold. Leave one blank line between the title and the name(s) of the author(s).
3. Abstract title should appear in BOLD (initial letters in upper case, except for prepositions and conjunctions). Do not indent. The title should be concise and reflect the content of the abstract.
4. The author information should be in point size 12 and only includes: 
   • Name(s) should begin with full first name, middle initial and last name in bold. Underline the name of the presenting author of the abstract; otherwise the first author will be taken as the presenting author. Degrees and titles are not required.
   • Affiliation(s) should be annotated by superscript numbers.
5. Use standard abbreviations and place a special or unusual abbreviation in parenthesis after the full word appears. Write numbers as numerals rather than words.
6. An acceptable structure of an abstract must consist of the following components.
   • Background: A statement of the hypothesis or research question.
   • Methods: An explanation of the study design and experimental methods used.
   • Results: A concise summary of the major findings of the experiment or study. Sufficient data must be provided to permit evaluation by the reviewers and public reading the abstracts. Statements such as "the data will be discussed" are not acceptable. (It is only acceptable to insert ONE table or ONE figure in an abstract.)
   • Conclusion(s): Summarize the overall findings and the importance of the study.
7. Authors are strongly advised to ensure the accuracy of the submitted abstracts. Any mistakes in literature or in scientific facts will be published as what is typed. 
8. The Scientific Program Committee of the 13th APCCMI reserves the right to accept or refuse an abstract, to designate abstracts either oral or poster presentation and to choose a suitable session for the abstract. The authors’ preference of the type of the presentation and theme will be taken into account.
